See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland.
- Isaiah 43:19 (NIV)
God is in the business of making things new! He restores things to the way they were intended. He makes rivers in the desert. He is doing this among us - the people of Grace Lutheran Church!
He has been making things new on our physical campus. Over the decades she had begun to show age. Through a series of capital campaigns and the generous investment of God’s people we are nearing completion of this latest phase. So many things are “new”, restored, and better than ever. Very soon the long-awaited kitchen remodel will be complete. What a great space we will have to share with new people. New roofs will cover every inch of our property. New flooring has been added in the Family Life Center. The beautiful organ has been restored and upgraded - made new. Landscaping continues to be renewed. A new series of security cameras has been added. Bathrooms have been renovated. Almost everywhere you look things are fresh. New logos and signs and offering envelopes and connection cards are all coming soon. New, new, new. We are blessed to be a part of this “new thing” which God is allowing.
Even more importantly we are being made new in spirit. St. Augustine pined, and Martin Luther echoed his words, “the true church must always be reformed”. The church cannot be allowed to grow stale – it must be made new and fresh. All who believe and are baptized are part of this true church, and thus by default God is working in us (collectively) and you (individually). We are being made new. To help us continue to walk this new fresh way we will begin a new sermon series on Sunday, September 1 – “Living the Mission”. Our focus will be on putting into practice several of the initiatives that our Grace in Action group helped identify.
When God does new things His people celebrate. Therefore, we will have a special joint “All Things New” service on October 20th @ 10:00 AM. The Holy Smokers will be providing pulled pork sandwiches and all families are invited to bring a side dish. This will be a great time of fellowship! Please plan to attend.
